Charburger Country in Hood River

This place is classic! Really good food, large portions, and very tasty. I wouldn't exactly call it an epicurian paradise, but if you're looking for a tasty, filling meal, look no further.

2 only cause they are really nice and seems like they are trying hard. The food isn't the worst I've had... but it's in there. Very old, run down, walk up and order and get your typical hamburger and fries out of a frozen bag, type of gig. The place is just short of looking condemned inside and doesn't look likes it's been updated since the early 80's. A must skip.

Wonderful food from the taco salads hamburgers, prime rib, salad bar & so many wonderful different things. I sadly have to say.. After 51yrs the restaurant Closed for good on 9/1/2018!!

I really love the burgers & fries, they are big and juicy. I get to prepare them the way I like them too.

The atmosphere here is great. We've been here many over the years. Our young son loves it as well. The food is good, the atmosphere is good and it's not like your run of the mill restaurant. A fun place to stop with the family. It's not a sit down diner where you order at the table, you order at the counter and they bring your food. That's not a bad thing, I just mentioned this based on a few reviews I saw on here.That said, the service was good, food is good and atmosphere is great. It's a fun place to stop.

Interesting restaurant with cool decor and a very friendly staff. Unfortunately, the quality of the food doesn't live up to the excellence of the serving staff. My fish sandwich tasted largely like Costco frozen fish fillets on a bun, and my wife's teriyaki burger was much the same case. The facility is a bit worn-down, but not terribly so. Overall, a solid 3/5, I think. Value isn't quite there for the price, but not terrible overall.

Wonderful food!!!! Had prime rib king cut big enough for my wife and I. Then parked for the night outside in our motorhome, and had breakfast in the morning. Delicious!! Stuffed frenchtoast had strawberries and cream cheese, and the country fried steak was cooked perfectly :)

Don't complain about your food here even if comes with melted plastic in it. They also think that it ok to serve pancakes raw in the middle and traditional French toast has corn flakes on it!!! When I complained I was asked to step away from the counter so others could not hear. And the manger called me anal!! All a bit odd.

One of the best restaurants in the Gorge. Awesome food and great service. I have been coming here for 15 years.

This place serves only fair food. Nothing special here. Taste is mediocre at best. Typical hamburger joint.BUT, THE HOT BLOND LADY BEHIND THE COUNTER IS A BABELICIOUS HONEY!!!

LOVE coming here. There was one waitress, whom told me that it was another waitresses fault that our order got rewritten, which caused my food to have onion after I asked them to leave them off. My niece wanted a bacon cheese omelet. She got ham. We asked for sourdough toast and she got wheat. Whatever that waitress was on. Yes she wasn't acting right!! I love going here but if you can't get your waitress to own her mistakes and fix them, so the people PAYING for the food don't feel bad because your staff is flailing around like she is on some kind of drug. Then my brother overheard said waitress AND cook talking about a "wild" night the night before.. Not impressed with the service today at all.

Great flavored food prepared and served by friendly honest people. Left my phone on the table. I was called on my home phone and informed I left it behind. Went back the next day and it was being safely held for me. The server even recognized me from the previous day. We decided to have another bite to eat. Pie ala mode. Yummy.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is pretty unique and awesome. It's full of old antiques and photos from Hood River's old days all the way back to the 1800s. The meat was good. My kids liked it. I give it a four stars out of five just because it's a little run-down however the food was good and the service was excellent

Not good. Waitress was cute and helpful. Food was not very good. It had been years since I had eaten there and it will probably be years before I would consider stopping there again.

Amazing place to go. Absolutely fabulous food, service, and set up.

Prime rib was tasty but a little chewy. Fish and chowder was fantastic. Good value for the money.

Seriously amazing food, I was blown away. I got the 1/2 lb. jalapeño burger, it was huge for one thing, and delicious. I enjoyed every bite, and it was a ton of food. Restaurant prices, $9-12 for a sandwich or burger with fries. There's a burger bar so you can fix up your burger how you want it after it arrives at your table with quite a few options. You walk up to the counter to order, seat yourself and then your food is brought to you. The salad bar seems to be popular, three other people followed me up to the counter and ordered that.

Everyone working here has history here & loves the place. Service & food are both excellent.

Pricey for an "order at the counter" place. I don't understand why it is set up that way since they seem to use a waitress to bus food and refill drinks. Seems like a waste of a huge restaurant to do it cafeteria-style. All the food was overcooked and about half my group thought their meals were disgusting. The ketchup bottle so sticky/greasy that the kids didn't even want to touch it. Definitely not worth the price.

Overcooked, slapdash, and upon inquiry: surly?! The only plus that lunch was the genuinely friendly server, who seemed to empathize and was (rightly) embarrassed to be working with the rude mouthbreather of a cook. Avoid at all costs.

This place must have gone to hell, I used to go skiing on Mt Hood and stayed in the motel down the street. I would eat here all the time and it was really good charbroil. Nice and thick hamburgers, and ribs and all sorts of good food. Wonder what happened.

Nice place for breakfast and lunch a little expensive and slow. But we have been going here fit years and keep coming back. The food is good.

The staff is fun and excited to see you. The salad bar fresh. I have the Philly sandwich it was good and I can't wait to try one of their cheeseburgers. I also heard that their cinnamon rolls or the best in Oregon.

One of my favorite places to get a burger in the NW. Epic onion rings and chocolate shakes too. Ignore the knucklehead reviewers talking about bad service etc. If you want cloth napkins and some dude named Pierre lording over you, this isn't the place for you. If you want damn good food, fun nostalgic decor, and a nice relaxed atmosphere, this is the place do go when you're in the Gorge!!

This was a wonderful break from our road trip on I-84. The burgers were really yummy and we could see the flames jumping up on burgers being grilled as we waited to order. There was a salad bar but we opted for burgers and fries with a soda. They had to-go cups with lids for the drinks, so we were able to take them with us after eating and heading back on the road. Cool part about this place was the condiment bar - it looks like a mini salad bar and had anything I ever wanted on my burger. The atmosphere is wood rustic with high back booths for privacy plus plenty of other seating. AND if you have time and the appetite for dessert, there are slices of pies, huge maple bars, and more. I've passed by this place mant times and I feel I've missed out, having never stopped here, before. Great place! And great friendly people.

Excellent service and some of the best food in Hood River! People kept coming in with only 10 minutes to closing time and employees kept saying, “Of course we’ll make you something, whatever you want!” They were also cleaning when we came in, which we liked but still took our order right away. Our steak had to be cooked up just a bit due to personal preference, but the staff was very friendly about it and brought it back quickly and it was so so tasty!

Their BBQ sauce is... Different. And everything was good until I found a hair buried in my food.

Pretty good food served reasonably fast. OK prices. I like it's old West Oregon atmosphere and liked that it's relatively quiet. Very good mash potatoes and gravy.

Sadly, Charburger will be closing later in September. We really enjoy having breakfast there. They have an extensive breakfast menu. So sad to see them closing their doors.

Great food, reasonable prices and a friendly staff. I had the 1/3 lb cheeseburger and it was really good. My son had the Reuben special and it came with a ton of corned beef. Started wondering why we stop at McDonald's when this place was a whole lot better for just a couple extra dollars.

Comfort food. Not pretentious, good food. It's always cooked and prepared just how you order it and there is a decent salad bar with plenty of choices. "Down home" is a fair description. The food and atmosphere makes it an easy choice for bringing kids, especially with all of the old photos, tools, and life-size wooden people in old- timey garb.

I only go there on Saturday mornings for coffee. I last ate there 35 yrs ago and my burger was so greasy that it came back up. Not brave enough to try again. They don't wait tables there either. You stand in line to order and pay at the same time. Today, it took me 20 minutes to get to the front to order a $5 pot of coffee. The staff is friendly enough, but a bit challenged, I think.

Stopped in for lunch on our way to Goldendale. I have eaten at Charburger locations for many years and they never fail. I had a cheeseburger and fries which was cooked to perfection. Still love their sweet relish. Restaurant was clean, service friendly, restroom too was clean.

Good breakfast, nice big portion.

This was a different experience. A burger bar for your toppings and condiments. It was nice actually to build it the way you want it. Love the fries. Worth a stop by if your hungry.

I watched the server fill the salad bar with no food server gloves. Used bare hands to remove salad items and used her hands to refill rather than use the serving spoon laying there. Eggs cut with her hands. Hamburger raw in the middle and fish was cooked in old oil. Won’t go back

$$$$$.Very expensive.And country, or chicken fried steak DOES NOT have brown gravy.No wait staff to refill drinks. At $38.00 for country fried steak, and fish and chips, it's outrageous. When the cashier told me how much, we almost left and went elsewhere. My wife said the fish had no flavor. I did not eat the chicken fried steak. They destroyed it with brown gravy. That goes on potatoes.

I enjoyed the atmosphere but when I received my meal I asked for country gravy and they gave me brown gravy. :( Part of my mashed potatoes were cold. But other than that it was good

Long time hood river establishment. Breakfast is better than dinner options. Burger bar is lacking a bit. The one in Cascade locks has more options.
